Reduce Energy Consumption to Clean Air
Energy-saving benefits our environment, our health and our money. By taking small steps such as remembering to turn off unnecessary lights and appliances or considering solar panels, you will contribute to a healthier world.
There is a direct connection between your energy use and the environment. Consuming less power can reduce the emission from power generation as most power plants burn coal, natural gas and other fossil fuels to create energy.
In 2017, emissions of sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and respirable suspended particulates from power plants accounted for 43%, 27% and 16% respectively of the total territory-wide emissions in Hong Kong. Fossil fuel combustion also worsens the greenhouse gas pollution such as carbon dioxide and ozone.
