CAN Secondary Students’ Internship Summer Programme 2025

Empowering Students to Navigate Clean Air & Smart Cities

Programme Overview

In an era where cities are becoming increasingly digital and data-driven, skills in analysing and visualizing data can empower younger generation to mitigate environmental related health risks, and prepare students in education and career areas including environmental science, data analytics, technology, public policy and urban development. Join us this summer at the Clean Air Network (CAN) for an innovative internship program designed for Form 3 to 5 students. This 5-day immersive experience focuses on air quality, data analytics, and public health within the framework of smart city technologies.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Data Analysis & Visualization: Ability to analyze environmental data and present compelling stories.
  • Solution Creation: Use technology and big data to devise meaningful environmental solutions.
  • Professional Exposure: Engage with the fields of STEM and urban planning.

 

Programme Highlights

  • Collaborative Learning Environment: Work in teams under the guidance of university-level facilitators and trained STEM undergraduates.
  • Professional Skills Development: Receive training in business communication, appropriate professional attire, and cross-industry networking.

 

Programme Details

  • Dates: 4-8 August 2025, Monday to Friday
  • Time: 09:30 to 16:00
  • Venue: Hong Kong Polytechnic University
  • Eligibility: Open to 20 Form 3-5 students from 4-8 schools. Participants must commit to attending all sessions.
  • Prerequisites: Basic skills in spreadsheets (Excel/ Google Sheets), presentation tools (PowerPoint/ Google Slides), online collaboration (Google Drive, Zoom/ Google Meet, email etiquette), data interpretation, open data & GIS, and internet research.

Program Format: A dynamic mix of in-person workshops, field visits, and collaborative project work.

Expected Outputs: Participants will present their projects to peers during the program, and later to their schoolmates, enhancing the educational impact. Upon completion of the Program, participants will be entitled to a certificate issued by the organizer.
